WINTER 2013.  Happy New Year from HRM Partners and many thanks for taking the time to view our website. In addition to the information and postings on this site, we hope that you may have an opportunity to attend some of the seminars that we will be holding during the upcoming year in Los Angeles, San Jose, Chicago and New York as well as other cities. The various subjects of our seminars include labor law updates, employment policy trends, compensation and performance appraisal trends, ethics/compliance and harassment prevention. As we set dates, we will post our seminar schedule under the “Seminar” tab which can be found at the top of this website.

2013 appears to be a more strongly optimistic year for the business world. Over the past five years, the business atmosphere has moved from heavy pessimism right after the 2008 financial crash slowly toward the cautious optimism of the last few years.  2013 may be the first year in many where we see consistent economic improvement. Despite the continued elevated unemployment levels, there are many bright spots in the economy including housing prices stabilizing, consumer confidence rising, retail sales improving, new car sales rising, etc.

At the beginning of each new calendar year, a clean slate starts in hopes for improvements aplenty.  Sometimes, the clean slate literally means cleaning all the clutter from the old year
including shredding old paper and getting new files set up. For HR, the traditional New Year practices include updating policies to match labor law changes, making sure updated labor law posters are in all the right places, having updated job descriptions and starting to think about employee and management training needs for the year.

As you consider all these good corporate deeds to perform, please occasionally check back at our site. We hope to keep you informed and updated during the upcoming winter months and into the spring.
